When Nobel Laureate, political activist, and Holocaust survivor Elie Wiesel wrote, “I swore never to be silent whenever and wherever human beings endure suffering and humiliation,” he knew full well that the evil of hatred can strike hardest when we are complacent.
The rampage that resulted in the deaths of 11 worshippers and six injured last Saturday in the Pittsburgh synagogue is a sad reminder of our duty to remain always vigilant against the hate and the fear that drives individuals, groups, and nations to persecute the perceived “other” among them. NetHope member HIAS has remained a stalwart defender of oppression against Jews as well as all people facing oppression no matter their religion, race, or place of origin.
We stand with HIAS and all our member organizations, tech partners, funders, and people actively working toward creating understanding and hope for a world that will embrace acceptance. It is our duty and responsibility to help create societies that encourage diversity, equality, and the intrinsic value of all people.
