Regional differences impact digital transformation, and they cannot be ignored

NetHope has published a new whitepaper showing the impact geography and cultural differences have on digital transformation. A one-size-fits-all approach to digital transformation can be expensive and ineffectual. Taking regional differences into account can result in a more sustainable, more effective, and less expensive journey.

Key findings presented in the new whitepaper include:

  • Global South respondents are more digitally advanced than their peers in the Global North
  • Managers, on average, slow down digital transformation in the Global North
  • Executives, on average, slow down digital transformation in the Global South
  • There are significant regional variances in digital transformation

Embracing digital development is no longer an option – it is imperative. In order to realize the 2030 Sustainable Development Goals and enable developing communities to access opportunities, the nonprofit community must become more digital. That journey looks different in different parts of the world. The people holding the nonprofit sector back on that journey towards digital transformation are also different in different regions.

The whitepaper was created to help nonprofits as they journey towards digital transformation. We hope that it will guide global plans and implementations of digital initiatives so that they achieve impact at scale sooner, with less effort and lower risks.

This regional analysis was conducted using more than 500 data points sourced from staff, managers and executives of nonprofits all over the world in the NetHope DNA assessment. Through the DNA, NetHope assesses the digital ability of nonprofits against a sector benchmark. The benchmark was first established by NetHope in 2018 in the Digital Nonprofit Ability (DNA) assessment whitepaper. Since then, nonprofits have on average become more digital (+11%).
