We’re excited to share the latest case study in our series on how AI is reshaping humanitarian action. This edition explores how the Humanitarian OpenStreetMap Team (HOT) is leveraging AI to revolutionize mapping efforts for disaster response and community resilience.
Through its open-source AI-assisted mapping tool, fAIr, HOT is enabling local mappers to identify and mark essential humanitarian features—such as roads and buildings—more efficiently than ever before. By integrating AI with community-driven mapping, HOT has nearly doubled the speed of mapping efforts, ensuring that responders have access to critical, real-time geographic data in crisis-affected areas.
Our newest case study, published March 7th, delves into HOT’s journey in developing and operationalizing fAIr, with thanks to Omran Najjar and the HOT team for their insights and contributions.
As AI continues to shape the humanitarian sector, NetHope is proud to collaborate with the UK Humanitarian Innovation Hub (UKHIH) to document and share real-world applications of AI for humanitarian challenges. These case studies serve as a valuable resource for organizations looking to implement AI-driven solutions, providing key learnings and best practices to enhance humanitarian response worldwide.
