NetHope, a global consortium of over 60 of the world’s leading nonprofits and 70 technology partners, is proud to announce the election of its newest Member during its April Member Meeting. The newest member, Ushahidi, shares NetHope’s aim to work together to amplify aid, development, and humanitarian work globally by using the transformative power of technology.

Through NetHope, Members share insights and lessons learned, collaborate on common issues, and work together to solve the complex problems that face nonprofits as they embrace digital in their operations, missions, and programs today. The NetHope Members do this via thematic Working Groups, regional Chapters, partnership programs and trainings, and collective emergency responses. NetHope welcomes the rich expertise brought by Ushahidi to our community and we look forward to finding even more collective impact. Together.

“When we welcome new Members like Ushahidi to NetHope, we expand the circle of our global community of leaders who deliver better humanitarian relief, long term development, and ecosystem conservation via accelerated digital transformation,” said NetHope CEO Lance Pierce on the announcement of the newest Member. “Ushahidi is committed to the shared strength of our global network and the impact we can make together.”

Ushahidi is a global not-for-profit Kenyan-founded and Kenyan-led technology organization whose vision is to empower communities to thrive as a result of access to data and technology. Their mission is to help communities quickly collect and share information that enables them to raise voices, inform decisions and influence change. Ushahidi builds integrated tools and services to empower people to generate solutions and mobilize communities for good through their flagship product, the Ushahidi Platform, to rapidly gather, analyze and act on data to strengthen communities and help people thrive. As of print, the platform has been used more than 200,000 times in over 160 countries, crowdsourcing more than 50 million reports from citizens worldwide to respond to some of the world’s most pressing challenges, from those affected during the Haiti earthquake to supporting nations during the COVID pandemic.

"Ushahidi’s ultimate goal is to have marginalised groups included in critical conversations on matters that directly affect them by raising their voices and for any decisions on policies developed or changed to reflect their needs and lived realities. For this meaningful change to be realised, it will require collective responsibility and action between multiple actors. In short, partnerships are key, and we must work together to realise the change we want to see in the world today. It is why we’re committed to making our tools accessible, enabling data collection and surfacing insights at scale across human rights advocacy, crisis response, climate action and good governance landscapes. This partnership with NetHope is particularly exciting, as it creates a unique opportunity to continue to build strong partnerships with committed members to help accelerate impact towards a sustainable future.”- Ushahidi’s Executive Director, Angela Oduor Lungati
