SEATTLE – November 2, 2016 – Over 300 representatives from global nonprofits, leading technology companies and funding organizations will converge at The Georgia Tech Hotel and Conference Center in Atlanta next week from November 7-11, 2016. They are united by one common goal: to apply the promise and power of technology to the problems of humanity.

The convener, NetHope, is a consortium of 49 global nonprofits that was founded 15 years ago. Its members include Atlanta-based CARE and Habitat for Humanity. Its membership represents the foremost development, humanitarian and conservation organizations leading the fight against the toughest challenges we face: poverty, hunger, refugee displacement, disaster response, disease outbreaks, human trafficking, gender inequality and environmental protection.

“The annual NetHope Global Summit is a valuable time for those committed to changing the world,” said Lauren Woodman, NetHope CEO. “It gathers our membership from 38 countries for an intense week of sharing challenges and experiences, learning through participation in sessions and workshops, hearing from provocative speakers and thought leaders to expand our knowledge, finding partners through networking and collaborating, and identifying promising new technologies through our Technology Solutions Exhibit.”

Summit topics include data security, digital payments, Internet of Things, closing the global gender gap in technology use, and the use of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAVs) for humanitarian purposes.

The NetHope Global Summit has drawn 34 generous sponsors, including 21 major sponsors, such as Microsoft and Cisco, which have supported NetHope since its founding. “Our sponsors help make the Summit possible and enrich it. This event draws so many ICT decision-makers and influencers and creates opportunities for new partnerships,” said Tina Lee, who manages NetHope’s corporate partnerships. “This high level of sponsor participation signals the fact that more companies are making commitments in the humanitarian space and perceive it as a win-win situation. We help them achieve both their commercial and philanthropic objectives.”
