SAN JUAN, Puerto Rico – October 14, 2019 – Over 500 representatives from global nonprofits, leading technology companies, and funding organizations will gather in San Juan for the NetHope Global Summit 2019. They are all united by one common goal: to apply the promise and power of technology to the problems and potential of humanity.

The convener, NetHope, is a consortium of nearly 60 global nonprofits founded 18 years ago. Its membership represents the foremost development, humanitarian, and conservation organizations leading the fight against the toughest challenges we face: disaster response, refugee displacement, disease outbreaks, poverty, hunger, and wildlife and environmental protection. Collectively, NetHope members deliver over 60 percent of all annual, international, non-governmental aid.

“Technology has transformed our world in a remarkably short time,” said Lauren Woodman, NetHope CEO. “The annual NetHope Global Summit is a valuable time for committed organizations to gather and focus on improving our world by utilizing technology for good.”

Woodman adds that the weeklong Summit agenda includes noted keynote speakers, in-depth workshops, and an announcement on Tuesday regarding a significant contribution to the Digital Skills Framework, a library of necessary skills that nonprofit organizations must have to enable and promote digital transformation.

“The decision to host the Summit in Puerto reinforces the theme for the NetHope Global Summit 2019,” explains Woodman. “In 2017, many of our members responded after Hurricane Maria devastated the island, restoring vital connectivity so that aid organizations could direct aid and affected communities could connect with family and information. Our collective response in Puerto Rico symbolizes what we can accomplish together and embodies this year’s theme ofVision. Action. Hope.”, Woodman notes Summit participants are “united by a common Vision that through collaboration and technology, we have the power to change the world and are committed to continuously learning how to translate this into Action, exploring and applying the promise and practice of digital technology to exponentially advance our missions.” She also believes that this provides a renewed Hope for improving the lives of the communities these organizations serve.

The NetHope Global Summit draws membership from nearly 30 countries for an intense week of sharing challenges and experiences, learning through participation in sessions and workshops, hearing from provocative speakers and thought leaders, finding partners through networking and collaborating, and identifying promising new technologies through the Technology Solutions Showcase.

Summit participants will get the opportunity to concentrate on one or more of seven tracks: Connectivity and Infrastructure, Data Protection & Information Security, Data Analytics & Informatics, Digital Transformation, Emerging Technologies, Humanitarian & Disaster Response, and Tech for Good.

The NetHope Global Summit has drawn 36 major sponsors, such as Microsoft and Cisco, which have supported NetHope since its founding. “Our sponsors recognize NetHope’s ability to convene the most important humanitarian, development, and conservation actors, including NGOs, international agencies, government institutions, and corporate partners that have the common goal of leveraging technology for the greater good,” said Woodman. “We are proud to be standing alongside so many sponsors who are committed to our members and NetHope’s mission.”
