Join NetHope Crisis Informatics and Facebook for a webinar building on the success of Disaster Maps: Facebook showcased its Disease Prevention Maps project, which launched earlier in May. This webinar shared insights from the platform that assists humanitarian organizations to better preventing public health crises around the world.

This 45-minute presentation includes an overview of the datasets that will be available under Disease Prevention Maps, including demographic breakdowns for their satellite imagery derived population density maps, as well as Facebook mobility network coverage data, as well as ample time for Q&A.

About the speakers

Laura McGorman leads Facebook's Data for Good Portfolio from the policy and partnerships side. Prior to joining Facebook, Laura held positions during the Obama Administration at the U.S. Department of Commerce, Opower, the World Bank, and USAID. During her four years at USAID, she worked on the President’s Malaria Initiative, supporting malaria control programs in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Alex Pompe is a Public Policy Research Manager on Facebook's Data for Good team. Previously, Alex lead Growth and Operations at a startup called Premise Data and prior to that he worked for six years leading IREX's technology for development. He also served as an IT and education volunteer with the Peace Corps in Namibia from 2006 to 2008.

Mehrdad Honarkhah is a Data Scientist at Facebook's Spatial Computing Research and Connectivity teams. Prior to joining Facebook, Mehrdad was the lead for modeling the risk of catastrophic events such as Pandemics, and as part of the LifeRisks group worked towards mortality rate projections and structuring capital market transaction for life and health businesses. He earned his Ph.D. in Geo-Statistics from Stanford University.
