Digital technologies are critical in helping countries and health agencies. They ensure robust monitoring of diseases, preparation of health workers, and making data-driven decision to support communities.
In light of the COVID-19 pandemic, we have gathered speakers from the ICT4D Conference (initially planned to take place in April in Nigeria, now continued as a Virtual Edition) to share lessons learned from the West Africa Ebola outbreak. These include good practice in applying mobile innovations for tuberculosis tracking and using digital tools to prepare community-health workers and communities.
During this webinar, part of an ongoing series around ICT4D, speakers for various countries and organizations will share a mix of digital tools for disease preparedness, tracking, and training of community health workers, and discuss how those can be harnessed in the COVID-19 global response.
Each speaker will present first-hand lessons learned from the following initiatives, and their potential application for COVID-19 programming:
Abi Gleek, Head of Programme Design, Every1Mobile. Abi's team is responsible for the strategic and creative direction of their programs, ensuring real delivery and measurable impact to users, and high-quality services to clients. She is passionate about leveraging the advantages offered by the latest technology and is highly skilled in leading participatory needs analysis and strategic design processes, co-creating alongside end-users to produce user-centered digital solutions. Abi has over 10 years experience in international development and public policy and has worked across Africa to improve the lives of women, children and young people. She has an MSc. in International Development specializing in Global Health from the London School of Economics and deep technical expertise in sexual and reproductive health, maternal, newborn, and child health, health financing, and health system strengthening.
Robert Kanwagi, Program Coordinator, World Vision Sierra Leone. Robert is a Public Health Management professional with 17 years of experience supporting and coordinating programs in six Africa countries, developing and implementing Country strategies, including overall coordination, planning, management, implementation, monitoring & evaluation and reporting of the strategies based on the external and internal aspects. Robert is currently the Project Director EBODAC - Sierra Leone, Rwanda, Democratic Republic of Congo, Uganda, and Senegal- A member of the senior leadership and management team for WV Ireland, in the department of Global Health Programmes Strategic Partnerships and Innovation. As the Project Director, Robert provides strategic guidance to the Ebola vaccine deployment, acceptance, and compliance (EBODAC) a consortium whose goal is to develop strategies and tools to promote the acceptance and uptake of new candidate Ebola vaccines.
Dr. Andrew Karlyn, Chief Impact Officer, Living Goods. Andrew has a Ph.D. in Demography and Public Health Policy from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine. He is an experienced researcher and innovation manager having worked at a senior level with Mercy Corps Agrifin, USAID's Global Development Lab, and as Country Director for Population Council in Nigeria. Andrew has worked in Africa and Asia for over 25 years, working at the intersection of research, technology, and program delivery in public health, nutrition, food security, and agriculture.
Rebecca Litner, Program Manager, D-tree International. Rebecca is a global program manager with D-tree International, a global digital health organization leveraging technology to transform health systems. In this role, she works with cross-functional teams to design, develop, and deploy solutions to improve maternal and child health, family planning, tuberculosis management, and more. She has worked across a variety of organizations, including health facilities, government agencies and technology vendors, on health systems strengthening programs in Africa, Asia, and the US.
Njide Ndili, Country Director, Nigeria, PharmAccess Foundation. PharmAccess Foundation is an I-NGO dedicated to facilitating access to quality healthcare in Africa by driving investments in the health industry through partnerships with private and public sector institutions. Njide has over 25 years of leadership roles in the healthcare industry in the United States and Nigeria and has worked as a consultant to several health organizations. She was the CEO Lionstone Healthcare Partners, a consulting company focused on Healthcare Information technology, CEO Hygeia Community Health Care, COO Hygeia HMO, Secretary and Board Member Society for Quality in Healthcare in Nigeria (SQHN). Prior to relocating to Nigeria, she was the Regional Operations Director at CIGNA Healthcare, Houston and held senior management positions at Independence Blue Cross Philadelphia and AmeriHealth HMO Houston Texas. Njide was recently appointed to serve as a Commissioner for the Lancet and FT Commission on Digital Health and AI.
Sonja Ruetzel, ICT4D Partnerships and Conference Manager, Catholic Relief Services. Sonja is leading the ICT4D Conference (currently in its Virtual Edition) on behalf of CRS and co-facilitating this monthly webinar series. Before joining the Global Knowledge and Information Management team at CRS, she was the Event & Program Director of the Aid & International Development Forum (AIDF). Sonja has over 15 years experience researching and managing global conferences, training courses, webinars, as well as reports and whitepapers in a wide range of industries, including finance, legal, health, technology, public and non-for-profit sectors. Prior to following her passion for professional development events, Sonja worked as researcher and editor at consultancy Control Risks. She holds a masters degree in Public Policy and Management from University of Constance, Germany.
