About the speakers
Jodi Lis, Senior Advisor, Learning, IntraHealth International. Jodi has over twenty years experience designing and implementing digital learning interventions in workforce development, pre-service education and capacity-building initiatives for health and education sectors in low-resource environments.
Derrick Muneene, Unit Head, Capacity Building and Collaboration, Digital Health and Innovation Department, World Health Organization (WHO). Derrick has 22 years of progressive experience in public health informatics, digital health literacy, digital health capacity building and project management. He has a computer science and public health background, with two masters degrees in information systems management and public health policy, along with various project management certifications such as PRINCE2 and project+. Previously he served as mHealth and eHealth technical officer for the WHO regional office for Africa where he supported 47 countries with the adoption of eHealth strategies and eHealth solutions. Before this, he served with the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention as acting branch chief for Health Informatics and Health Systems Analysts / Health Applications Manager. Derrick is a dynamic and visionary digital health expert. His key focus areas in the field of digital health include digital health policy, scalability, regulations and services, including telehealth, electronic health records, capacity building and digital health standards. He has supported several countries in setting digital health strategies, solutions and services, including smartcard-based solutions, multitiered software architectures, data standards and interoperability, competence based frameworks for health workforce and digital health maturity models.
Michael Culligan, Co-Founder, Pyramid Learning. Mike has been developing the capacity of development and relief professionals for over twenty years. As a founder of LINGOs, PM4NGOs and Last Mile Learning, he has worked with hundreds of non-governmental organizations, developing learning and creating professional certifications for the sector. As a lead author of the Guide to the PMD Pro, the Guide to the FMD Pro and the Guide to the MEAL DPro he has been a thought leader in establishing standards for development and relief professionals. Equal parts field-based development worker and instructional designer, Mike has extensive experience working for NGOs across the world, including Central America, Africa, Eastern Europe, Southeast Asia and the Caribbean. He has developed over 100 eLearning titles, on-line course and workshop curricula.
Richard Heeks, Professor of Digital Development, Global Development Institute, School of Environment, Education and Development, University of Manchester. He is Director of the Centre for Digital Development. Following a period of work as a programmer for ICL, Richard studied for a BA/MA in Natural Sciences from Cambridge, and then taught science in a rural school in Nigeria. He worked as a researcher at the Universities of Leicester and Loughborough, gaining an MPhil for his study of personal information systems. Richard then undertook an ESRC/SERC-sponsored PhD at the Open University on the Indian software industry. Following his doctorate, Richard joined the University of Manchester to teach, research and consult on digital development and information and communication technologies for international development (ICT4D). He is one of the pre-eminent and highly-cited academics in the emerging sub-discipline of digital development/ICT4D, and has written six books, more than 60 refereed articles, and over 150 other papers and reports.
Sonja Ruetzel, ICT4D Partnerships and Conference Manager, Catholic Relief Services (CRS). Sonja is leading the ICT4D Conference (currently in its Virtual Edition) on behalf of CRS and co-facilitating this monthly webinar series. Before joining the Global Knowledge and Information Management team at CRS, she was the Event & Program Director of the Aid & International Development Forum (AIDF). Sonja has over 15 years experience researching and managing global conferences, training courses, webinars, as well as reports and whitepapers in a wide range of industries, including finance, legal, health, technology, public and non-for-profit sectors. Prior to following her passion for professional development events, Sonja worked as researcher and editor at consultancy Control Risks. She holds a Master's degree in Public Policy and Management from University of Constance, Germany.
