As the world becomes increasingly data-driven and has embraced the digital platform era, it is more important than ever to equip your organization with the right tools to thrive. Data has become an essential part of most technology-enabled aid and international development programs and platform is one of the biggest buzzwords.

This webinar, part of an ongoing series around ICT4D, examines platforms for (mobile) data collection and analysis and how to choose the right tool to set your program up for success. Platform solutions, if applied correctly, can significantly speed up the data collection and analysis process, increase accuracy and volume of data, allow for quicker decision making, and potentially cut costs (long-term).

There are numerous of platform applications for data collection and analysis, each with a wide array of features around compatibility, connectivity requirements, data security, and processes for data export. Selecting the right solution can save your program time and money, reduce security risks, and set you up for making the best data-driven program decisions.

In an interactive discussion, our webinar speakers will share their diverse and firsthand experiences of using and implementing different platform tools for various aid and development programs over the past years. They will discuss key considerations when selecting and testing a new ICT4D platform, as well as how users’ experiences, expectations, and skills impact the success of the choice and program. Attendees are encouraged to ask questions and join the debate.

Topics to be discussed include, but are not limited to:

  • Overview of platform options for data collection and analysis
  • Which platforms seem to have achieved most in the field and why?
  • The right tool for the job: when does it make sense to use a platform based on your data needs, ecosystem, user skills, budget?
  • Key criteria: what to consider when selecting a new platform?
  • Ensuring security and privacy compliance
  • Centralization vs decentralization
  • Addressing testing and implementation challenges
  • Training of colleagues, partners, end-users without technical jargon
  • How to successfully coordinate multiple (evolving) tools?
  • Lessons learned: what have we learned from experience worldwide so far and what problems remain or require further attention?
