Last week, this email came to NetHope from one of the NetHope Academy Graduates in Haiti. It is another great story of a NetHope Academy graduate who is inspired by what he has learned and how he is now applying it.
Dear Mr. Franck,
As you know, NetHope is a family for me. You are like my uncle, Mrs. Marlene and Lisa are like my aunts and my fellow NetHope Academy Graduates are like my brothers and sisters. Thanks to all of you and the opportunities you have given me. You have made me what I am today: someone who can help not only his country, but also all humanity with his knowledge in the IT domain.
As you know, I am working at the Canadian Red Cross. At one of our Academy training on GIS (Geographic Information System) software, I remember you telling us the importance of developing special skills that your employer would highly value. You said that we should listen carefully to Mr. Mike Ruth from ESRI because he was an expert in GIS and the ESRI software would be given to us for use at our offices. I have been practicing with the ESRI’s ARC software so that I can become an expert like Mike and now I am so proud to show you some of the maps that my boss at the Red Cross asked me to produce for the office.
This first is a map of Jacmel with many points of interests. Jacmel is on the Southern Coast of Haiti and many important Canadian Red Cross programs can be found there. This is the best map we have ever had of Jacmel and I am proud that I could produce it.
The second is a map that we use for Security. It shows key points of interest and locations for police in the three areas where we work – Port-au-Prince, Leogane and Jacmel.
I am already getting more requests for maps and I enjoy learning how to do new things. Once again thank you, NetHope ,and please call on me if you ever need help with the NetHope Academy Intern program.
Best regards,
Joel Barthelemy
