Conflict-affected youth in the Middle East have limited access to skills-training resources, support networks, and role models that can help them prepare for employment in order to access meaningful livelihoods opportunities. To address this challenge, SOS Children's Villages launched an online mentorship in 2017 called YouthLinks using Facebook Workplace to connect young people with mentors working in private sector companies. Mentors were trained to support skills development and provide guidance to youth as they prepare to enter the job market in their communities.

Starting this year, young people and their mentors are using Volunteer Vision’s digital platform for remote mentoring with the employee volunteers from DHL, Allianz, Credit Suisse, and J&J. The program also includes personalized job training–it covers 5 employability topics including resume writing, interviewing skills, team communication, and more.

Through YouthLinks, corporate partners can make a tangible impact on the lives of young people who do not have access to skills training locally while engaging their employees’ expertise and desire to contribute to the greater good within and beyond their local footprint.

Key Takeaways for Attendees:

  • How to use remote mentoring to support skills training of conflict-affected youth;
  • How to partner with private sector organizations to activate their employees to support the needs of conflict-affected youth;
  • How to integrate technology solutions to make remote mentoring effective.
